Due to demand again exceeding supply of our LUSU Let properties we are currently looking to increase our property portfolio.

As a LUSU Let property owner, you can expect high profile advertising, advice and support and to be kept informed of any legislative changes. LUSU Housing are Lancaster University’s sole off campus housing provider and we are committed to offering support and information to our property owners and tenants alike.

LUSU Housing have developed our Headlease scheme for over 10 years so you can be confident that our highly qualified team of housing professionals have considerable experience of Lancaster’s student market and are able to manage your property(s) to a high standard.

Headleases

LUSU Housing’s property management scheme (LUSU Lets) is a Headleasing scheme. Whereby, LUSU (Lancaster University Students Union) lease properties from property owners, then sub-let those properties too groups of students and student families. In essence, LUSU becomes your tenant, while the students become tenants of LUSU.

We offer 2 types of lease depending on the property being offered and the type of tenants we think the property will attract. Our standard lease is a 44 week undergraduate lease, while we also offer a 50 week lease to those property owners providing us with flats and smaller properties which are more suitable for couples and student families.

Both our leases provide LUSU Let tenants and our property owners with the security of a Fixed Term Assured Shorthold Tenancy.

What the service offers & how it works

There are numerous benefits of letting your property through our Headlease scheme. The main one being that it offers owners a less stressful way of letting their student properties while still retaining some control. We offer rents based on careful consideration of Lancaster’s student housing market, the location of the property, the quality and condition of properties.

Where tenants are secured for a property, the stated rent offer is guaranteed for the full contracted period subject to the property owner complying with all terms of the lease. However, it must be recognised that all our rent offers are conditional and only come into force once tenants have signed for the property via LUSU Housing.

We believe our Headlease scheme offers something extra to owners and tenants alike.  But don’t just take our word for it. Many of our LUSU Let property owners have been with us for a number of years – a testament to the happy and productive working relationship the housing team have developed with our property owners over many years.

Areas of Interest

The aim of LUSU Housing’s Headlease scheme is to provide high quality, affordable accommodation with good transport links to and from both Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria.

In our experience, certain areas are more popular than others. For this reason we are primarily interested in properties located in the following areas:

* Lancaster City Centre
* Bowerham
* Greaves
* Scotforth
* Primrose
* Moorlands
* Fairfield

All these areas of the city are popular.
