Accommodation 2010/11

While the 2010/11 academic year does not begin for another 8 months there appears to be a shortage of off undergraduate campus accommodation in Lancaster. So what should you do?

With LUSU having let all our LUSU Let houses – and the majority of the city’s other off campus providers seemly in a similar position – LUSU are seeking additional properties for our LUSU Lets scheme and the Property Bank. It’s important therefore that groups don’t panic and take their time when seeking accommodation for next year.

Students still looking for undergraduate accommodation for 2010/11 are best advised to wait on their College accommodation waiting list for the time being. These waiting lists do ‘reduce’ overtime with the Colleges releasing any vacant rooms when they become available. With the deadline now having passed for returning leases and deposits for a campus room its likely the Colleges will begin releasing rooms for those students towards the front of their waiting lists.

Alternatively, LUSU have been advised by the University that there are still a number of rooms available at Chancellors Wharf. Anyone interested in one of these vacancies should contact their College Residences Officer for further information.

With regards to off campus accommodation its inevitable there will be some properties advertised privately that LUSU are not aware of. Should groups identify such a property that they like they are advised – having checked all the properties related certficates, contracts and letting arrangements – to secure the property if at all possible as demand will inevitably be high.

Anyone seeking further advice with regards to their 2010/11 accommodation options should contact their College Residence Office or visit the housing office.
